About Parents of Disabled Children Coalition
Parents of Disabled Children Coalition is committed to advocating for disabled children in Durham, creating accessible spaces through direct advocacy, community organizing, and mutual aid. This parent-led coalition is dedicated to raising awareness, providing resources, and driving policy initiatives to support disabled children and their families. We believe in the power of community and strive to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all children.
Current Initiatives
PODCC focuses on developing local support networks, participating in policy changes that impact our families, and advocating for more accessible community spaces

Advocating for IDEA & IEP compliance in schools
Children with disabilities have specific protections under federal law which ensure equitable access to education and appropriate learning supports.

Opposing Corporate Income Tax Cuts
Current legislation is in progress which adjusts corporate income taxes down to $0 by 2030, taking away critical dollars from our schools and community

Collaborating on Accessible Park Projects
Only 7% of Durham parks are ADA compliant. When our community spaces sere disabled youth, they serve our entire community better.
